How can you choose the best materials for an architecture project on a tight budget?

As long as materials can be upcycled or recycled at least, I believe that in many of today's project it does not matter that their life time is short. Those materials are often more affordable. Just check their environmental impact. When I designed lighting for luxury retail, manufacturers were bloating that their lights last 50000 hours....
