Respect the timeline the hiring manager has provided for the decision-making process. As a job seeker, you are constantly monitoring your email for an update on the process. When they said they would be back to you by Tuesday and it's now Thursday, you're desperate for some feedback/assurance that things are still on track so you send a "just checking in" email. Instead, try this: demonstrate your interest and fit for the role by doing something extra like a SWOT analysis or 30-60-90 day plan, or interview 5 of their customers and say you've done some qualitative market analysis you'd like to share with them. Most candidates don't do this because they think they are giving away their intellectual property or that it's not a good use of their time. This is the best way to stand out from the crowd!
