I enjoy talking to people one-on-one and in forums. Written forms are a good way to keep hold of recorded feedback but nothing beats the meeting of sincere eyes and interesting heart-to-heart conversations. I love facilitating creative healing through art therapy sessions with jewellery making, painting, and performance, it allows all audiences to express themselves non-verbally if language is a barrier and breaks down all stereotypes very quickly.

Listen. Take a deep dive into what the needs are and bring creative "outside of the box" ideas to make them feel special. After all, as event planners, there is no better feeling than seeing a room full of happy faces, love, collaboration and positivity that we helped create!

Understanding the needs of your audience and providing a meaningful purpose to your event are crucial factors for its success. By grasping the specific demands of your target audience, you can offer solutions that result in effective participation in the event. Comprehensive planning is essential to ensure success at every stage, from pre-production to post-production. Minimizing room for errors is fundamental to ensure that the event unfolds seamlessly and meets expectations, delivering a impactful experience aligned with established objectives.

Being a coach in different parts of the world and working with people with diverse backgrounds, I found that empathy is the most essential element in knowing your audience. Specifically, cognitive, boundary-setting, and global empathy. Essentially, understanding at an intellectual level an audience's emotions, perspectives, and boundaries both on what one is seeking and the level of answers they receive. Finally, cognitive and boundary-setting empathy relates to the greater community's needs, experiences, and well-being. An example from basketball is that one must first see if people can bounce the ball before one "throws" in terms, complex plays, or abstract tactics and strategy.

There’s so much to be gained in immersing your attendees in the event. Take care of them. Make your presence known and accessible. Show them that if they need help or guidance, that you can provide that. Even if you are worried about the feasibility or sustainability of what that might mean, show your attendees that you are willing to try. Prioritize the attendees’ and event teams’ productivity and wellbeing, and they will prioritize your event in return.

The foremost purpose of an event is to facilitate networking, creating opportunities for future benefits. Promoting clear and efficient communication is not only important but also indispensable within an event, as conveying your message in a clear and direct manner is essential to add value to your gathering.

A key part of creating a welcoming environment is asking people, up front, what their adjustments / accommodations are, and then providing them without asking for proof or evidence. Giving people the ability to outline their own adjustments - rather than picking them from a predefined list - is important, as they need the adjustments that work for them, not the adjustments you’re prepared to provide. Importantly, though, you have to provide the adjustments people have said they need, or communicate with them well in advance if there’s going to be a challenge implementing them.

Everyone involved with the event needs to be part of the strategy to build an inclusive environment. I recently organized DEI training for event speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors to help them prepare for our event. They appreciated the professional development opportunity and team building that in turn made them feel more welcome and comfortable at the event too.

Exploiting the different forms of learning and using visual, auditory, written, kinesthetic, musical, interactive, and self-directed learning to cover a significant part of the learning spectrum and improve learning pathways. Through surveys, an organization should always focus on long-term learning and growth of its audience rather than on likeability. A complete learning engagement method should include a portion of self-reflection and mindfulness. Krishnamurti quotes: "Learning is not the accumulation of knowledge. Learning is movement from moment to moment.

Providing content that adds value to your audience is the icing on the cake within any setting, from the invitation to the execution of the event. Content is what attracts the audience and encourages participation, contributing to the overall value of the occasion. Therefore, thoroughly understanding your product and having qualified individuals to share knowledge with the audience during the event is crucial.

The critical element of any personal relationship is connection. Trust is about taking a risk. People connect because they see common ground or that other people care about them. About their wants, needs, viewpoints, and lives in the most genuine of ways. The keystone to successful human relationships is starting by respecting somebody's life without knowing it. Everything else follows, and differences can be overlooked because of this particular sign of respect. After living and working in seven countries and three continents, I can say that people become lifetime friends because of love. When one allows most of their guards and senses to feel, people usually choose to do the same. That can only happen through respect, sharing, and caring.

Sadly, many leaders and executives are keen to say “If we do this for one person, then we will need to do it for everybody”, and proceed to restrict necessary accommodations, changes, and the like in service of the bottom line. When it comes to events and other live experiences, community is the priority, and it’s important to remember that your community IS your bottom line. Show your attendees and those putting on the event that you care, and that everyone’s comfort is prioritized no matter the nature of their involvement. There is always value in going the extra mile, and rarely any value in refusing to.

After everything unfolds, and you've successfully executed your event, having a list of data with contacts, etc., it is crucial to nurture these leads with information, fostering a strong relationship, and remaining readily available for future negotiations. Personalizing your service is essential, understanding your customer's demands so that you can deliver effective solutions.

Create positive impact. Take the time to understand who your audience is - their ages, hobbies, interests, physical and emotional needs, etc. Make a list of everything this audience typically likes to do and needs to enjoy your event. Then go the extra mile and provide options for each need. For instance: - If you have a group with dietary restrictions, provide multiple options that meet their dietary needs so they can choose what to eat rather than dealing with the only item on the menu. - If your audience has sensory issues, rather than providing 1 sensory friendly room, provide sensory friendly lighting, objects, and environments in each space. Make sure they are comfortable exploring the entire event rather than one small area.
