Well I think this should be a more fundamental step and be at the beginning - Take Action, Try Things. A short while back I went into a meeting with a few people from a startup and we started discussing, then we discussed a bit more - our vision aligned, and there I was a new member of their core team. I got into that meeting because I took the initiative of going in, instead of saying I'll let things be how they are. Short Hack: Find a problem, figure a solution and discuss that with people - it works.
