Agreed. Building numbers of people you know of is the easy part. Most people can do that. Building relationships that are meaningful, strong and valuable is the harder part. But it’s worth it. Don’t increase quantity without focusing on quality. Although reach itself can be beneficial, having a few individuals you have deeper connections with can turn out to be more beneficial. How to make a deeper connection? Offer them value, support their endeavours, talk over similar interests, connect them with other people that might be useful to them etc..

In my experience strategic thinking is a trait that can be spotted in mundane situations, we may not always so fortunate to find people in their elite performance mode, so developing the sensitivity to spot the same trait in mundane situations can make all the difference. In how they make an order in a restaurant, in how they decide what to even wear, but not to be vague, the consistent elements is their desire to go through mental rigors even for simple decisions because they desire to have a more optimized life.

A network isn’t just about financial gains however a network is the process of building human relationships based on mutual respect, love and mutual growth.

To me it's simple, choose who's your career developer, then learn from him/her all the times. Every time reflect why he/she could think this way while we couldn't.
