Don’t just talk about business. Ask them about their journey, inspirations, and challenges. Show genuine interest in their responses. This helps build a rapport and makes your interactions more memorable. Do not only focus on what you can gain from the relationship. Instead, think about how you can provide value to them. This could be by offering insights into market trends, sharing relevant contacts, or providing feedback on their collection. Most Important: Send a handwritten thank-you note after the show, expressing your appreciation for their time. And mention specific conversation details to show that you were attentive and interested.

Since during shows like these everyone is occupied and one can not talk in lengths..don't miss on collecting and sharing business cards. This is the platform where their will be new products also ..or may be new dealers..talk and increase your intellect by observing and absorbing. Value time and manage it well Can also take the list and other details from organizers before hand.

Visit with other brands in their booth and start up a conversation. Share your business card and follow up with them in a few weeks. Attend the networking and social events put on by the tradeshow so you can meet other people in the industry. Be friendly. Don't try to sell them anything - just be yourself. Casual networking.

Don’t just KNOW who you want to meet and chat with, make sure you set up appointments in advance and follow up with calendar invites to ensure they know you’re serious and excited to chat with them. Do some research and give them what you believe would be best selling items for their audience and prepare so you have everything pulled together before they even arrive. Remember to have callouts on design and fit details so they know exactly what makes your collection one worth adding into their mix!

Don’t spend time looking at your phone, look at the show goers and make sure you look alert and attentive. It’s easy to ignore people that are already ignoring you. Stand up as much as your feet will allow. It doesn’t hurt to bring some sweet treats to boost blood sugar (yours and theirs!!) ??

Another thing that I also do when I attend tradeshows is go to the booth of my previous employers or other brands that I have worked for and say hello! Last winter at MAGIC, they still had some of the bags I designed for them years ago for sale in their booth. I was able to check in with the owner and his wife and some of the employees that I used to work with. It's super fun to reconnect. Never burn a bridge in the fashion industry, it is really small and always fun to see people from 5, 10 or 15 years ago.

Always listen with a smile and having eye contact without staring too much.. Showing your interest to know more than showing off your potential unless you are asked about .

I agreed to follow up after the event with people you met at the trade show. However, I would do within 24 hrs but instead within a few days. As you don’t want to appear too desperate either.

Points mentioned above are very general and basic pointers for any industry. What I promote through my events is being kind and gentle, be understanding of others and be ethical, promote and market organically, choose to be in genuine surroundings rather than attend every event just to be present or to click photos with inconsequential network. Most important is to be clear what you wish to represent through your work or projects, how does it bring communities together, how you can be part of a project and add value to it, it’s the intent at the core what makes the approach a genuine and fruitful journey. Do it for passion rather than because seeing others do it and just feel I should also do it cuz so and so are indulging in it. Be Real !

Absolutely, be yourself and be giving. Share your experiences in Fashion for free and exchange ideas. Create an open business relationship and you never know what that can lead too. I also tried to find something I can give, either as a tip or referral so I am able to help the other person I met at a Fashion event.

I agree with Dr. Mansoor Al Obeidli - these tipps are not especially for fashion design, as you would expect when reading the headline. Which doesn't mean that the tipps are not valuable! But I think, fashion - as every single industry - has it's own little things to consider and character types to respect. We recently organized an "architecture and fashion" team event in Antwerp, which is not our focus and we usually have no business connection to fashion. But looking beyond the own horizon creates new and interesting things, which was the case for us, too. So: Being friendly, interested and open-minded, especially when working in a different sector, can be helpful.

An example of active listening is listening to hear and understand, rather than to listen to respond. Often people begin to speak even before hearing the entire thought. Worse, they interrupt with their thoughts.

Prepare a concise and compelling elevator pitch that introduces yourself and your interests in the fashion industry. Your pitch should highlight your passion, skills, and what you're looking to achieve. Bring business cards and promotional materials to hand out to potential contacts. I agree but you need to bring people together on one accord. A value proposition and important workshop I share in my EAP-training program can be a unifying set of principles that can be applied immediately. Values should be easy to understand or explained well. At Black Biz principles found in Kwanza, the African American historical celebration are our choice. Keeping people grounded in values give people boundaries by which to operate. Minimizing conflict will be achieved with a better understanding and respect for all.

1. I would recommend always taking your card and being confident about communicating what you do. Sometimes I was too picky or too relaxed about having my business cards or sharing my profession. You never know what opportunities you could pick up if you hand it out. Even if you have to decline unsuitable referrals. 2. Make sure you are presentable and comfortable in your own skin. 3. Practice your angle before you go, what do you want to achieve out of the day? Who do you want to meet? What do you want to talk about? Stay open to the great possibilities you can manifest. Thinking like this will help you be confidently prepared. And most importantly, just have fun and enjoy the experience.
