My first employer had seen my student film not long after I'd graduated from Vancouver Film School and knew my style would be a good fit for their studio. Within a few years, I was in a position to do the same thing for new artists looking for their shot, which again, was about timing and need: We needed a someone with a particular skillset at that specific time, which those artists fulfilled.

These larger conferences can provide great insight and networking opportunities with leading companies that work in animation. Most importantly, get your work out there into the public eye.

Training is a constant quality in professional growth, not only in the niche of arts, animation, and design, but all professions require a continual update of knowledge. With the acceleration of technology and new tools like artificial intelligence (AI), it is very important to stay up-to-date with trends. The market is constantly changing, and this can determine the demand for certain styles and tools. In addition to this, it's always interesting to have complementary skills, but something that should always be taken into account is that this industry operates with teams. It is important to work on interdisciplinary projects that help you grow professionally, providing knowledge from other areas outside entertainment.

If you're looking to delve into the animation industry as a newbie, there are a few things to consider. Note that there are about 9 to 10 types of animations. So you would need to pick a niche that interests you and then learn. It's always okay to be an expert in one aspect than trying to learn several at the same time. Having something to showcase stands for me as the greatest factor, so I would suggest more practise and having something to to present 1 out of 10 trials would definitely amaze even the creator

Versatility is an important asset in your skillset . Animators and TD’s that can solve both creative and technical problems and can “wear different hats” add a lot of a value to a project, whether it’s a game or a film.

You have to be creative and be very versatile. It will benefit you well in the future if you can work with several genres in the world of animation. For example, instead of just doing action and adventure, go for other genres like romance, comedy, horror, extraterrestrial, existential, and plenty of others. Be prepared for the next project at hand, as they'll never be in the same genre.

Being flexible will always be an advantage in the competitive world. I had the opportunity to study an MBA, and I advise fellow creatives to look beyond the art and learn from other industries and bring the best back to ours. When we think about tight budgets and deadlines, we could shift the focus to the way we market ourselves. I know many artists who change their market and sell themselves to work within their own timelines and budgets. It's interesting to see a change in focus and perspective to sometimes not adjust ourselves, but to adjust the environment.

Always look at a concept like a pattern the more seamless it depicts it self after redundant flow then a sequence is going to form a pattern in method of creation most effectively after 6 weeks of consistency .

Hey! I should have scrolled down before my #4 TED talk. So question #5 kind of mirrors my answer above. I'd say this is all good advice but I'd reword it to say find your voice and define your fingerprint. I think being able to "sell yourself and speak from your strengths" are what's important in finding your voice. But "developing your own style, vision, and brand" is not how I view finding your niche. It's defining your fingerprint. I can look at some of my more successful friends art/editing and I can tell you confidently who's work is who's? Because they have a defined style of their own. It makes them unique. The sooner you find that for yourself, the sooner you'll stand out of a crowd.

Apply to Studios: Research animation studios and apply for positions that match your skills and interests. Be persistent and don't be discouraged by rejection. Use feedback to improve and refine your approach. Continuous Improvement: Stay committed to improving your skills. Take additional courses, attend workshops, and seek feedback to refine your craft continually.

?f you want to be a good animator and catch the eye of recruiters, you need to learn basics of acting for references of your animation. Having portfolio of multiple characters(both human and creatures or animals) would open more opportunities. Reanimate the famous animations to catch attention.

"How can you break into the animation industry?" I think it's useful to reframe the question. "Breaking into" animation puts this industry up on a pedestal, as if there's something magical about it, or we're special for working in the industry. We're not special. We're lucky. In how many industries do we get to use creative problem-solving daily and self-actualize our ideas, in the long run expanding our own toolboxes of creativity? Not many. So "breaking in" to animation? Nah. This is about allowing ourselves to be creative, and learn, and grow. This is not external. This is almost completely an internal process, and can be done independently of the industry. ... But yeah, getting paid for it is pretty great too.

Revisit your motive; what is it that you wish to achieve? Because the wrong motive can send you down the wrong path in any industry or occupation. For animation it is about what you wish to see, but haven't seen, yet. It should never be "just a job". And it should never be about you, but about your ideals! Later you can ponder again for whom you plan on working for and what subjects your ideals will be meant to serve. ;) ...but first it's all about your craft and your contribution to the world and what you feel was missing.

Develop a killer portfolio. Make it scream, "I'm the Picasso of pixels, the maestro of motion!" Disagreeing with the idea of waiting for a golden ticket? Be proactive! Hunt for opportunities like a detective looking for the last slice of pizza. Network, attend events, and show your face (or your animated avatar) wherever the animation wizards gather. ???♂??? Example alert! Create a short animation that's so jaw dropping, even your grandma would share it on social media. Bonus points if it involves a dancing cat. ???? Remember, persistence is key. Even if rejection hits you harder than a cartoon anvil, keep going. The animation world needs your unique flair. Dive in, make a splash, and let the pixels dance to your tune! ??????

Find a company similar to your vision. A company that produced a product you really want to be a part of, and dedicate all your energy towards their perspective.
