I've been conducting many interviews lately, and only about 1 in 10 will send me a thank you email. Suppose you just had a cybersecurity interview and didn't send a thank you email. In that case, you're missing a huge opportunity to thank the interviewer for their time and consideration, remind them of your qualifications, and express your enthusiasm for the role. Sending a thank you email won't guarantee getting the job, but it can leave a positive impression that sets you apart from the competition. There’s very few things to do after the interview. One of them, is still the age old approach of sending a thank you email to the hiring manager and hiring team. There are many templates online to use, but you want to keep it short and sweet and slightly insightful. After that, though, basically have to just wait. Any attempts to continue contacting the hiring manager will appear as desperation and will lower your potential for getting hired. If more than a few weeks have lapsed, or if more than the time that they said has elapsed, you may check in through email to verify that you were still interested, but again that’s about it. You must just wait and be patient.

If you are looking for a job then every hour waiting for a response can be painful. Follow up after a suitable time ( 1 or 2 weeks ? ) and no harm in asking that during the interview about how long the process takes. Learn to disengage after the interview and take some time off to relax

Always research the company, and if you know the names of the people you are interviewing, them as well. If they are a publically traded company, SEC filings are a wonderful source of information. Being able to talk specifically about the organization can be a huge difference.

If you have an email address, and a company name, then you can find out pretty much everything about that person (if you know where to look)

Try to avoid taking things personally. Many a times you might not hear back even after multiple followups. While this is not ideal but it’s the reality and make peace with it. No response isn’t intentional and not taking it personally would help you avoid impacting your mental health. Focus on other options and try to keep up the professional attitude ????

When working in Cybersecurity as in any technology, Statistically, very few people understand what the company does, and the Business Intent the technology company supports to the business mission/vision. That is how I try to differentiate myself is by understanding the mission/vision statements and goals of the organization. First, I read the public information before the interview. During the interview, my questions focus on the business vision, etc., and how the interviewer sees this role supporting the business intent (see Cisco Systems website for information on Business Intent.) If I do follow-up, I include my understanding of the way my role supports the team in supporting the organization.
