Benefits of ITIL: It has a structured approach. It's a foundation, not a destination. It prevents organization-wide knowledge loses. It's prescriptive. It's easy to implement. It's good for individuals as well. Flowcharts. Accountability is key.

ITIL is a structured way to deliver IT services. It outlines ways to deliver the essential elements of IT Service Delivery. A central feature of ITIL is improving practice/process integrations. ITIL helps organizations connect components of Service Management into a framework to provide value to customers. ITIL v4 isn’t prescriptive; in fact, an effective organization that’s never heard of ITIL would likely score highly on an ITIL maturity model. Because it isn’t prescriptive, organizations need to adapt the ITIL delivery frameworks to suit the needs of their organizations.

5 How can you combine COBIT and ITIL?

COBIT and ITIL are not mutually exclusive or incompatible frameworks. In fact, they can complement and reinforce each other, by providing different perspectives and levels of detail for IT governance and service management. You can combine COBIT and ITIL in several ways. For example, you can use COBIT to define your IT governance objectives and policies, and then use ITIL to implement and improve your IT service processes and functions. One of the main benefits of the ITIL framework is that it is compatible with other frameworks like COBIT. I’ve been in organizations where ITIL has co-existed synergistically with Agile, DevOps, and SRE frameworks. The key is to define the scope of each. Implementing any two frameworks entirely would likely cause overlap and redundancy, so defining which framework governs each aspect of the environment is essential.
