In my view, your campass (core values) should drive your goals. In this case, when you seek mentorship to achieve these goals, your campass will help you to decide which path to follow or which guidance is aligned with your campass direction. This philosophy can be applied on your relationship with your mentor about building Machine learning skillsets specially the important aspects such as fairness, free speech in machin learning applications.

One of the main benefits of having a mentor is that you can get constructive feedback from an experienced and knowledgeable person.
