Some useful "hacks" when trying to prioritize are: -Know your business, financial goals and objectives. -Divide open tasks into short term & long term objectives. -Know your team and internal processes. Play to your strengths. Distribute workload accordingly. -Set achievable goals and expectations and select progressive milestones. -Understand bottlenecks & weaknesses and develop a plan that accounts for them. -Give yourself a sensible time buffer to complete tasks. Expect delays and account for them. -Jumpstart in parallel as many sub-activities as possible that do not require a set completion date prior to project deadline. -Unite and conquer. Trust your teammates and delegate responsibility where applicable.

I am particularly concerned about this fifth step, "Take care of yourself". Product Marketers are saddled with a whole lot of tasks because the role naturally implies working on multiple projects. After you must have prirotized, planned your schedule, and done every other steps. Deadline will definitely come and you should be aware that deadline are often too tight hence why you should consider all the listed steps. However, ensure you take care of yourself physically, mentally and emotionally because work continues if something comes up about your health. I repeat, "Take good care of yourself", you tend to be more productive when you do. Also, meeting deadline wouldn't be an headache for you if you do take good care of yourself. ??

At Microsoft, I learned the importance of priorities and boundaries for balance. Use a simple framework like "3 Wins" from Agile Results to focus and find fulfillment. Consider your life's "Hot Spots": mind, body, emotions, career, finances, relationships, spirituality, and fun. Set a vision for each and regularly assess your ambitions and experiences. Build daily routines, start your week with "Monday Vision" for key wins, and end with "Friday Reflection" to practice gratitude and plan improvements. This structured approach helps you maintain your balance.

Efficiencies.. Find ways to be more efficient with your time, and cut out the busy work that won’t help you get to your final deliverables. It’s not uncommon to find two individuals taking drastically different times to finish the same tasks and it usually comes down to how much time you waste on work that doesn’t ultimately play a big role in the final deliverable. Also, make sure you know the assignment, don’t assume you know what is needed, double check up front!

I always prioritize strategy over tactics. That's why I assist my clients in establishing systems, processes, and automations to manage potential pitfalls, thereby reducing the stress associated with a perceived lack of control.

There must be a point of flexibility in every project; either Scope, or Date. If the due-date won’t flex, scope must flex. If the scope won’t flex, the due-date must flex. Even Apple’s iPhone keynote had a flex point (scope). They had several phones lined up behind a table, each only capable of doing one thing. If there are no points of flexibility, your team will burn out and leave you, as they should, because they’re being tasked with unhealthy and unsafe scopes where the only possible casualty is them. Scope, or Date. Make sure everyone knows which one it is, make peace with it, then do your very best.

When discussing work life balance it’s critical to separate day to day work levels vs occasional or one off spikes in activity. Your day to day work level has to be reasonable has to be balanced. If this is not then it both impacts the quality and quantity of your work and it impacts your life. However this is very different to occasional or one of spikes in activity which are an inevitable fact of life both for work and non work related issues. Separating these two issues helps on planning helps on prioritization helps on setting reasonable expectations.
