Hello Photo community. Yes softwares are keys. As a picture Editor I use Photomechanic to add captions and picture credits to the files I have received. A lot of photographers don't put their name or any information in the file information. Please do add at least you name in the file info of the image. A great photo, retouched etc is great but without your name in the file info it is pointless as no one will know who it is coming from!

Developing a good workflow is such an important factor in both using time efficiently for post production, and in creating a consistent and cohesive look. It can take time when starting out to develop your style and auteurship, and the easy ways to create the shortcuts and steps for an effective workflow, but massively saves time in the long run. As software updates it’s good to see how tech changes can be incorporated.

Having a consistent workflow will help so much in both speed and quality. Organization can help with this. By having images organized neatly into categories on import, and thoughtful naming, it becomes easy to find things later on. This could look like images grouped by date > imports > file name. Likewise, on export, having files named properly can help with finding things later on.

Hi, I do 360 product photography, so each product produces 24 images and then 3 of those are also duplicated and used as hero shots, roughly 8000 products per year so that gives me 216000 images (4200 per week). So with this kinda workload batch editing is the way to go. - Write actions in photoshop, - Use bridge to queue up thousands of images to batch edit. - You need a very high level of image consistency out of the camera. - Work with jpg rather than raw if possible. - Use the batch renaming tools in bridge. - Spend some of the time saved on manual edits where they are needed. I am also responsible for uploading those products to the site with full details and quite a lot of the web management so time is pretty precious.

As your eyes are getting used to color tones in a long editing session, it’s a good habit to get some neutral daylight from time to time. This will allow you to have a fresh look and re-evaluate your progress.

Many editors won't tell the truth. Editing is the most difficult part in a production. Sometimes you are working under a strict timeline and you have a lot f work to do. What I always advice my fellow Editors is to ensure they give quality work. Try to manage your speed but don't manage your speed and end up giving a poor work it can limit you and also is un ethical. Work should be done neatly and clearly.

Making room for constructive criticism is imperative in any industry, but especially within photography as it's so subjective. I always keep tabs on trending photography trends within the industry I specialise in, noting positives and asking others to review my own editing skills. Although every image whether in focus or out of focus, sharp or blur, high-key, low or high exposure (light)- should try to give its own perspective, story, message (can be conservation related, or a message of concern, or any of the trending messages that you wish to address). Make sure your edited work is appealing. Many people do a lot of work in production process but end up with a poor quality in post production process. You find an editor spoiling the work.
