En realidad dependera de la plataforma donde realizaras las consultas de los datos. Si bien hay tendencias a dar una interfaz basado en SQL por simplicidad, esto no siempre aplica para todas las herramientas; por ejemplo MongoDB. Dependiendo de las opciones que la herramienta de al desarrollador, es que se puede eligir; por ejemplo, spark permite usar SQL o python/scala dependiendo del enfoque. Lo que si se puede hacer es ver herramienta puede ayudara a gestionar mejor estos puntos; como apache drill; o ver como se integraran con la plataforma que se escoga.
