I follow a simple strategy of not thinking of our viewers as "consumers" or even come close to making them feel that I am selling them a product. The best balance is to position whatever a brand is offering as a solution to the viewer in the most authentic, relevant, and seamless way. The minute a viewer feels that something is being sold to them, it is going to cause a repulsion on the content and lose all credibility. It’s all psychology. You have to understand the business owner; shape the content according to their goals. Keep in mind the consumers’ minds, how will they perceive it, how will they react to it, and how will they make a decision on it. Just be sure to put the users' interests first and talk about what they need to know to solve a pain point in their life. If you choose topics close to the solution your product brings, it'll be natural to weave in mentions of your product where it truly adds value to the piece. This helps ensure your business goals don't get lost along the way.

Frankly, it’s a trick question. Needs of users and business goals cannot be mutually exclusive. They might be in the short term, for example if a user need is RoI negative for the business and a business is looking to control the leakage. But, in the long run, they need to be as close as possible, if they are not, then it’s not even a business. Now, content design. Why content design became important over the years is because the content either is informational or is entertaining/relatable - in both cases it does satisfy the needs of the users. Because that’s the fundamental purpose of content. More the content is informational about myths, problems, pain points, awareness, solutions, better it is for your business and the brand.
