1 Technical risks

To assess technical risks, you should consider the complexity and scope of the RPA project, the quality and reliability of the RPA software and tools, the availability and scalability of the RPA infrastructure and resources, the compatibility and interoperability of the RPA solution with other systems and applications, the security and privacy of the RPA data and processes, and the testing and monitoring of the RPA solution and its outcomes. To mitigate these risks, best practices for RPA development should be followed. This includes conducting a thorough feasibility analysis and business case for the project; choosing a suitable RPA software that meets your requirements; following a structured and agile development methodology; applying robust testing and quality assurance methods; implementing adequate security measures; and establishing a clear governance framework for the solution.

You can read below news: A worker was killed in a food sorting plant in South Korea after he was crushed by a robot. The incident occurred at a pepper sorting plant when the man, who was only identified as a robotics company employee in his 40s, was inspecting the machine. The robotic arm failed to differentiate the man from a box of produce, grabbed him and slammed him against a conveyor belt. Is it due to performance issue or bugs or malfunction? Access Risks: BOTs can store and accumulate excessive accesses, which may create data, security, privacy and fraud risks. Unauthorized change: Automation through RPA requires aligning control design to mitigate the risk of manual override or unauthorized changes. Complexity of risks?

2 Operational risks

Operational risks are the risks associated with the execution, performance, and outcomes of RPA solutions. Such risks can include inefficiencies, inaccuracies, inconsistencies, deviations, failures, and disruptions. To assess these risks, you should consider the suitability and readiness of processes and tasks for RPA, the alignment and coordination of the solution with business objectives and strategies, the impact and value on operations and outcomes, the dependency and interaction with other processes, tasks, and stakeholders, as well as the resilience and contingency of the solution in case of changes or errors. To mitigate these risks, you should follow best practices for RPA execution such as selecting optimal processes and tasks for RPA, defining the scope of roles and responsibilities, measuring performance, efficiency, accuracy, quality and communicating with users. Additionally, you should update and optimize according to changing business needs as well as developing a backup and recovery plan.

1. In my opinion, incorporating a well-defined change management strategy early in the Robotic Process Automation (RPA) implementation process is crucial for mitigating operational risks and ensuring a smooth transition for end users. 2. Another way to reduce operational risks is though pilot implementations where RPA bot is implemented on a smaller scale before full deployment in order to identify and address failures and issues early on and reduce the risk of bigger problems after full deployment.

Legal risks are the risks associated with the compliance, regulation, and liability of RPA solutions. These risks can include violations, fines, penalties, lawsuits, and reputational damage. To assess legal risks, you must analyze the legal and regulatory framework and requirements that apply to the RPA solution and its domain, as well as consider contractual and licensing agreements and obligations. Additionally, you need to assess ownership and accountability of the RPA solution and its data and processes, potential disputes or claims that may arise from the RPA solution and its outcomes, and ethical and social implications of the RPA solution. Mitigating legal risks requires best practices for RPA compliance such as conducting a comprehensive legal analysis, verifying validity and legality of the RPA solution and its providers, establishing a clear record of the RPA solution and its data/processes, resolving any legal/regulatory issues or conflicts that may occur from outcomes, and adhering to ethical/social standards/norms of the RPA solution's impact.
