I think you need to know your audience - I would put this higher up next to ‘know your topic’ and I ideally you bring value to your interviewer so they get something out of the discussion as well. If you understand their role and what matters to them and if you can help them in anyway - maybe new data or insight - then it will help engage them positively and open the door to a richer discussion and sets you up well for future interactions
