Even otherwise smart managers tend to think that they can delegate almost anything else than the final decision. So getting their full attention in the initial stage of the process - getting to the common understanding shared by everyone involved in the hiring process, is the key. I always use the @Wisnio platform to engage all the decision-makers for the search project. I just ask them to join in for a position mapping session and they will be fully engaged and complete a collaborative position map in 20 minutes. They appreciate this, and I have added value even before the search has been commissioned.
