We need to demonstrate to the vendor ( treat him as partners) that how their performance has direct impact on company’s financials and the. Explain to him what you expect of him in a volatile market situation. Response time, quality levels, lean manufacturing, adaptive to changing needs may be some areas where vendor has to be briefed and at times hand holding done for him to respond the way you want . This ensures a bonding between the two which gives strength to either side in working together to face challenges posed by volatility. Of course you need to know and share where we are today and where we want to reach . More the clarity , more the cooperation and synergy.
