In my experience the best way to adjust a presentation style to a board of directors is doing nothing that you would do on stage to inspire your audience. Board of directors and top management meetings don’t need any motivation, they need out-of-the-box views of their current problems and solid calls to action. You got to give them a pragmatic speech tailored on their specific needs and driven by an unconventional point of view. Seven answers to seven questions they did not think to ask for and closely related to executive decisions that will impact on their company’s performance in the medium term, say 3 to 6 years. That’s my advise. BTW, you would better have a preliminary meeting with them to understand their needs, don’t try to guess :)

It is helpful to know how much time you have. I generally develop one slide per minute. For example, if I have been given fifteen minutes to discuss a topic for the board, I include fifteen slides. Make sure you provide good descriptions in your presentation. The board may not understand your topic the way you do. Include definitions of acronyms, for example. And don't go too deep in the weeds. Just give them high level information. Find a colleague who can view the presentation and give you feedback.

Consider the position of your audience. The level of detail they need (or don't need). The need for clarity and conciseness. Put yourself in their shoes and make sure you understand exactly what is that they need to hear to make a decision, and deliver nothing more. Of course be ready to expand and go deeper if they ask you to do so.
