Make sure your budget items match the ones you describe in your project activities, timeline, and evaluation. Use consistent terminology and labels across your proposal. Highlight the connections between your budget and your narrative, such as how your costs will contribute to your outputs, outcomes, and impact.
Adhering to the principle of necessary and reasonable to support the grant budget, it is an absolute necessity that all the proposed expenditures are consistent with the project scope and narrative. Indeed, it is important that the justification provided for each budget line item (which should always be done) highlight the connection to one or more elements of the proposed scope and range of activities involved with the grant. Keep in mind that what Grantors constantly scrutinize are deliverables/performance benchmarks connected to a timeline for grant expenditures which means narrative connected to each budget line item needs to connect to outcomes.
