How can you address heteronormativity in social work practice?
Heteronormativity is the assumption that everyone is heterosexual, cisgender, and conforms to traditional gender roles and expectations. It can create barriers, biases, and discrimination for people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, or any other non-heteronormative identity. As a social worker, you have a responsibility to challenge heteronormativity and promote diversity, inclusion, and social justice for your clients and communities. Here are some ways you can address heteronormativity in your social work practice.
