There are many tools which on paper solve the 'asset management' program for a company. The most important factor though is ensuring that making sure whatever tool you choose can be used by every team that has a stake in asset management, that it can integrate with other systems to share that data, and that processes are put in place to keep in accurate and complete. Too often I see a single team tasked with implementing asset management in isolation, so it ends up not integrating with finance teams, CMDB, incident/change process, etc. If you go to the AM system, you can query data, but it's not in any other systems. So most people make decisions without asset management information. Thus, the intended value is never realized.
