How can women in manufacturing engineering prepare for leadership roles?

This is important for both women and men: Get hands-on experience in the manufacturing engineering. Going to school and learning the books is great, but being on the factory floor and getting dirty builds self-confidence both in regards to being able to do the manufacturing as well as understanding the principles of engineering. Be willing to put in the time, and this will win the confidence of industry peers and those that work along side you.

For women, being a woman is enough! Be the real you, that works fine too :)

Primeramente, adquiere experiencia práctica como ingeniero de fabricación. Todo conocimiento practico ayudara en un puesto de liderazgo en la toma de decisiones, dar direcciones realistas con metas alcanzables en un determinado tiempo establecido y desarrolla confianza. Exactly strength is very much important to anyone importantly as a women . Women is industry is not just an easy thing to. The most women leadership skill is the increase productivity, enhance collaboration, inspire organisational dedication and improve fairness

Develop strong speaking and presentation skills. Lead by positive example and develop negotiation strategies. Conflict management and cultural techniques are a must.

If you can, seek out reputable leaders to mentor and/or sponsor you. They can be a great help to you. A mentor can help you navigate the sometimes tricky landscape as you are moving toward a leadership role. A sponsor can open doors for you that might not otherwise be opened. In both cases, you can benefit from their knowledge and reputation. Because of this, you must take care to do you best to perform well and demonstrate excellence in your character so that you honor their faith in you. Your performance should only serve to enhance the mentor's or sponsor's reputation.

In a large organization, both Mentorship and sponsorship are necessary. I suggest finding these both inside and outside of your direct team. Go into the conversations prepared with questions, topics, situations.

You need technical mentors (“know your business! Inside and out”) and people mentors. Mentoring can come from leaders, peers, and reports or lower-ranking people whom you respect and trust. Absorb the good examples, learn from the experienced knowledge, and assess their weaknesses to help you look at your own strengths and weaknesses. If you can find them, build relationships with senior level leaders who are willing to invest time in you. Honor them by listening and asking questions when things are not clear.

In my experience, embracing diversity and inclusion has proven to be indispensable. Diverse perspectives fuel innovation and creativity, leading to better decision-making and a more comprehensive understanding of complex issues. A technician solved a high-level troubleshooting network issue that plagued the company for a couple of days by associating the problem with the documentary they watched about the growth of fungus. Another time, female technicians saved the company thousands of dollars in filters per year by identifying dollar store pantyhose could be used as a substitute (15 years later, the machine is still running, and they are still the number one customer for dollar store pantyhose). Great ideas come from everywhere.

Leading is like baking a cake from scratch - Take the time to combine your unique ingredients together in a way that is palatable; something repeatable and agreeable to your 'gut,' and beneficial to those consuming it. Memorize that recipe and lead using those same ingredients, changing things up one ingredient at a time if needed to perfect the product- Take time to enjoy and reflect on what you have created

Discovering your leadership style and identifying skills that align with your personality and values are essential to helping you become the best leader you can be. When you try to be someone you are not, it creates frustration, anxiety, and can lead to depression. It is a valuable use of your time to discover your particular leadership style. When you know your style, you can focus your efforts on growing and strengthening the skills you need to enhance your leadership performance. You may be able to do ok leading by emulating someone else. But this will always be a struggle because it's not who you are so you'll constantly be battling to suppress yourself and model someone else. It's best to know yourself and grow yourself.

Feedback helps improve skills and develop professionally. Actively seeking opportunities shows initiative, increases visibility, and expands networks. Gaining various experiences readies for leadership, boosting confidence by overcoming challenges. Displaying leadership skills in projects is crucial for moving up in your career. This proactive approach not only builds expertise but also positions you for a smoother career progression.

Take the hard projects. Ask for help when you need it. Share progress. If something doesn’t go as planned, share the learnings and a recovery plan. A setback doesn’t mean you failed.
