One of the best methods for showing your clients (or management!) what sort of benefit design could give could be to present a value proposition. A value proposition canvas clearly labels what pain points users may have, and what can be done from a proposed solution to ease these pain points and what positive gains can be added.

Immediate feedback can help us to make time- and cost-saving design changes and improve the dynamic between the user and the team. Emotions play a role - sometimes even more so than logic - in a user's decision-making process. A customer may react more strongly to a story and may feel more connected to a product or brand if it makes them feel a certain way. Emotional design or gamification makes the user feel like they are achieving something, so they would more likely be inclined to participate.

Satisfaction implies a certain threshold that–if met–suddenly transforms the user's opinion from negative/neutral to positive. A minimum threshold you might say. I argue that this imaginary threshold doesn't exist where the minimum amount of needs are met, but rather when expectations have been exceeded. Some might even call this delight. So why then would the threshold for satisfaction be the same as that for delight? Satisfaction is an emotional response: to trigger it the needle has to move. In a world with so many mundane experiences we have to be jolted awake for it to rise to the level of cognition. Even then, so many of those jolting experiences are negative. Only when we are surprised AND delighted do we find satisfaction.

Have you ever heard "A happy user can attract new happy users"? Probably not, I just said it now. But in a way it's true. Think of an app you use because a friend, family member or acquaintance told you "I use this app and it's great", or something like that. The truth is that we like to be part of things, to coincide with others and share interests makes us form bonds that society needs. Philosophically speaking, we are individual beings that need to group together. Going back to the main idea, think that a satisfied user makes your product grow and reach more users. Therefore, an individual can make the difference, think about it.

I like to follow these rules for maintaining user satisfaction for digital products. Make tiny subtle changes to small design artifacts over time (with A/B testing) so as to not interrupt the usage of neurodiverse users. Second, offer themes so that users can have options between old and new UI while recycling pattern libraries in your design system. So that users need not relearn particulary for trauma-informed design. Both are universal and do not have sizable impact on budgets.
