I agree that TPM is the perfect path to reliability, but there are challenges associated with the Midstream industry. The gathering systems are so spread out and the manpower is lean. It is much more achievable to be successful in the downstream sectors as the locations are convenient for the crafts to participate in the program and there is a surplus of manpower.

I agree, TMP eliminates or minimizes reactive maintenance so more focus can be put on preventative and predictive maintenance. I have seen an autonomous maintenance program. It works well if you have a surplus of operators as you do in the downstream sector. Not the case in the Midstream sector.

I believe critical spare equipment is a key factor in making a TPM program work. The plant design prior to commissioning is the place to make this happen. Without it, a shutdown is imminent along with an interruption in service to the customer.

Implementing TPM in your manufacturing plant requires a systematic and strategic approach that involves defining your vision, goals, and scope; establishing a cross-functional TPM steering committee; conducting a baseline assessment of current equipment and process performance; developing and prioritizing action plans for each TPM pillar; training and educating employees on the TPM principles, tools, and techniques; implementing the action plans and monitoring the results and feedback; reviewing and evaluating progress and achievements; continuously auditing and improving the TPM activities; and sustaining the momentum.
