Another thing I've found particularly beneficial from team workshop learning is coalescing around shared language. We often come to collaborations with varied backgrounds and experiences that shape our understanding of what we 'know'. Yet another might look through the same prism, but through a different facet of it, and see (or 'know') something completely different. Getting on the same page with what we are talking about, using shared language, is critical for being able to build group momentum on shared goals and objectives.

Meaningful impact after a once-and-done workshop isn’t realistic. There are ways to layer in development plans, and accountability, involving managers to help cement the learning that’s occurred. The forgetting curve is real, and pretending otherwise is a mistake. Organizations need to think of these workshops as a part of a larger strategy.
