The Care Act 2014 guidance says "Where the local authority provides or arranges for care and support, the type of support may itself take many forms. These may include more traditional ‘service’ options, such as care homes or homecare, but may also include other types of support such as assistive technology in the home or equipment/adaptations, and approaches to meeting needs should be inclusive of less intensive or service-focused options.” The need to be innovative is written in our official guidance.

In my experience innovation and creativity take time to imbed. The person who you are wanting to be more innovative/creative need a fair degree of self confidence that they can undertake being innovative. In the past, one client I worked with commissioned a series of workshops to help raise the staff's emotional intelligence so that they had the self esteem/confidence to perform in the role.

To spark innovation, social workers should be open to new ideas and ready to challenge the usual ways of doing things. The TEC First approach is a perfect example. It encourages us to question old habits and consider options that give people more control and independence. So, what's the plan? Question the Norm: Use TEC First to explore alternative, less intrusive solutions. Get Feedback: Involve everyone in the decision-making to make your services better. Learn and Share: Don’t hide your wins or lessons; share them to inspire change.
