Training is crucial to a lean management process. Training is needed for the main agents of the change process to get them to fully appreciate the strategic, operational and tactical parameters of the lean change management process. So first get the lean management team into a trainer of trainer session to be equipped with knowledge regarding the full strategic implications of the change process. Explain to them how the change process affects tech and finance and operations and marketing etc and then explain to how these strategic parameters affect changes in operational execution and tactical discipline. Get this change team to go and also train key department heads and duty bearers so they also train downwards till everyone is aligned!

Use a learning tools with evaluation exams and gamification technology, give rewards. Make the training tangible outside the brain of your colleagues.

So while lean management techniques are really needed sometimes to re-align and strengthen organisations, I have found by experience that sometimes the amount of diplomacy and delicacy a consultant needs to effectively execute these techniques is really mind blowing! Take for example an assignment to rationalise the marketing communications of a large organisation where there is clarity of who should handle corporate communications, product communications, internal communications, digital communications, sustainability communications etc. And you must begin the painful process of breaking down and building up....I have found that if you don't get strong senior management and board support, it becomes next to impossible.
