IT operations professionals needs to understand how business people think. Also the same for business users at certain level needs to understand how much work required to "keep the lights on". Only then a mutual understanding and cooperation can be achieved from both sides, in order to achieve the business goals and milestones that will benefit the business with more customers satisfaction and bring more revenue. Service availability, performance and scalability can be key for business people to appreciate the "behind the scene" efforts, and on the other hand IT Ops team must realize the importance of service readiness 1st thing in the morning when business users start to use the IT services on the frontlines serving the customers needs.

IT operations is all about selling your services to your fellow employees and retain the customer by listening to issues and resolving them. The Communication gap of any level will hinder all progress and bring the system to a grinding halt. The early you start talking and sharing your side and listening to the other side the mist disappears and all can clearly see the goal miles ahead ....

It is always helpful to understand the customers needs for sure. Use different tools to understand their pain points and then lay a roadmap to alleviate those painpoints . This is the essential part as we can spend time and money understanding the painpoints but if there is no action plan layed out with deadlines, all that effort is wasted.

In my experience, I belive that building strong relationships with other departments is crucial for IT Operations Management (ITOM) professionals to effectively support the organization's overall goals. i.e. Advocate for IT solutions that align with business goals: When proposing IT solutions, clearly articulate how they align with the specific business goals or business strategy of the organisation supporting.

Throughout my journey in IT Operations Management (ITOM), I've often witnessed the transformative power of effective communication. It's a tool that has not only resolved technical issues but also mended the intricacies of business relationships and interpersonal dynamics among cross-functional teams. In building better relationships with other departments, ITOM professionals must go beyond using simple language and active listening. They should lead with empathy, genuinely seeking to understand the unique challenges and goals of their colleagues in various departments. This approach fosters a sense of shared purpose and collaboration. Being flexible and adjusting the communication approach can lead to more productive interactions.

I get called into organisations frequently to dismantle dysfunctional IT operations teams all too frequently. I can say without any doubt that the number one cause of their demise is communication. Complete lack of it in most cases, and when they do, it is inaccurate, indecipherable, and sometimes down right rude. Every good manager should set the bar and expect his team to follow suit. In their defence they often prefer not to communicate until they have something to say, or don't like to give bad news, and the dreaded well they saw the call closed surely they know it is fixed... In my experience people stress more when they don't know what is going on, and are happy to take really bad news when they know where they stand.

Use the language, processes, and outcomes of the business. Stop trying to teach them your tech language. Meet with the C-suite and departmental heads, make a note of the words that they use, and then only use those words when communicating to them. Above all, LISTEN!

From my job experience: Become a trusted advisor and problem solver to help them solve technical issues, improve processes, or optimize their operations. Ability to clearly articulate how IT services contribute to the overall success of the organization. Highlight the impact of IT on business productivity, biz continuity, customer satisfaction, and financial performance. Participation in cross-functional projects and initiatives that involve multiple departments. This will foster a sense of teamwork, shared ownership, and collective problem-solving. COnstantly deliver on ITOM's promises and respond quickly to requests for assistance from other departments. This will build trust and confidence in the IT team.

For collaboration to work effectively, all the Roles & responsibilities must be set and agreed, signed off as "peer to peer accountability" on who does what so there is never any doubt doing the work. In reality in order to have a good collaboration, sometimes IT ops professional must be willing to grow beyond technical capabilities and become a cross teams coordinator, mastering soft skills such as "technical Project manager" to oversee and align many teams involved ranging from IT infra, software development, business users, analyst, etc.. to ensure all are aligned and able to bridge the communications between team to prevent working in silos. Stake holders communication plan is also key to get everyone feels appreciated and supported.

t's essential to recognize that assumptions about roles, responsibilities, and deliverables can lead to misalignments and friction. Proactive clarification and confirmation of these aspects at the outset and throughout the collaboration process are crucial. This approach not only ensures that everyone is on the same page but also fosters a culture of transparency and accountability. Additionally, defining and regularly measuring success criteria and key performance indicators (KPIs) is vital.

When people feel valued and respected, they are likely to be engaged, motivated and committed to their roles. Second when we invest out time and attention in others, they not only uplift their sprit but also boost their productivity and creativity.

It is important to have a clear understanding between IT and their business partners. Formalized documents need to be developed and approved by all involved. This information can be gathered from team meetings, emails and phone conversations. Putting this information together into a charter for a project can go a long way to aligning expectations and outcomes.

From my point of view, since the IT is a service department and also development sector accordingly the its most common department is dealing with all various of people types so ita play a big role of that concept
