This is a true and valid way of effectively teaching ADHD students. Research has shown us that once you deliver an interesting topic to your ADHD student, you will have his attention. An example would be if one day at your class you decided as a teacher to put on a movie that your students like, specifically that ADHD student. You will soon find out that he does not move, fidget or loses focus through the entire movie ??! The same goes for academics. The challenge is to find a captivating method to engage your ADHD student with what he doesn’t feel pleasant or amusing.

One way that i use, as a behavior analyst, with ADHD students is a point system or otherwise called “ Token economy system.” I have a student who does not focus or engage during classroom activities. By adding a token economy system that suits his needs, he is able to follow along and earn points that he can exchange for rewards at the end of the day. AND he will have a weekly reward if he collects a predetermined number of points during the school day. It has worked incredibly well for him, his teachers and his parents.
