Decision making is one of the basic management skills that we can develop in different ways. I've worked with teams and leaders that get stuck in the solutions phase because of their limited subject matter expertise, inability to step out of the past, or unwillingness to explore solutions that may not seem feasible. One of the tools I often is a mindset shift where I ask myself (or others) to change from thinking about what they can't do because (of x,y,z reason) and start thinking that they can if (a,b,c were in place).

In a fast-paced environment, you won't have the possibility to analyse each potential outcome and you might end up with a pile of decisions on your shoulders, whilst still circling around the very first question. However, if you possess a deep understanding of the topic, in my experience, it's best to "listen to your gut". Again, this applies to a fast-paced environment where the impact of the decision is relatively low.

Turn big decisions into a series of little decisions ? Don’t feel locked by 2-3 alternatives – search for more options ? Know the worst that can happen – it will keep you assured ? Be aware of your Biases – self realization is important ? MOST IMPORTANTLY – Trust yourself – do what YOU feel is right

Consider the use of scenario planning. A specific decision might be best suited for a series of conditions which may not always come to pass. What might be the best option under one set of conditions may not be the best under another set. Consider multiple possible conditions and the probability of each when determining the best solution. Don't be afraid to hedge you bets!

Leaders can do that by creating accountability via stakeholder engagement, deadline, setting clear goals and then identifying a timeline to assess.

I agree with everything above, but I would like to add that your decisions must be carried with confidence. You must be resolute in your decision and in the implementation of your decision. If your team, organization, etc., see you waiver often enough, then chances are uncertainty will begin to spread. This does not mean you need to have all the answers. In fact, being open to suggestions and feedback carries it's own level of confidence. All this means is that you will be confident in getting to the resolution, and your team will share in that confidence with you.

Someone who cannot make a decision one way or another will soon lose the respect of peers and subordinates.
