Another challenge is adapting to the dynamic nature of modern IT environments. Network segmentation is straightforward segregating your network in different zone like MZ , DMZ & LAN zone with the help layer 3 devices. This may prevent your network from malware but if you don’t have proper access control matrix implemented then there will be loop hole on segmentations. Like someone has access of SMB port from his machine to File Server then if his machine infected with Malware then it can spread to server also. So as per my point of view, Network Segmentation along with access control matrix will be strong solution to safeguard our data from malware attack.

Network segmentation always helps, However visibility wise we will only get to know north to south attack path. With micro segmentation it will be easy to establish the attack surface path east to west.
