To establish your presence as a motivational speaker outside your area, it is crucial that you become “known” for something. By identifying your niche, the area(s) you’re truly passionate about, you’ll start being known for that particular area/topic as opposed to your location. This is absolutely critical. And the good news is that it’s quite easy to do. Once you’ve determined your niche, your next task is to create enough content, and drive enough awareness, to where your name becomes synonymous with that particular topic. Knowing your niche and consequently the target audience is extremely important, if one has a target audience of doctors and they speak about everything else under the sun, except about how to keep doctors motivated who keep seeing, death and disease everyday day after day one will never be able to connect. Through sharing consistently on social media by giving value in advance to the audience. By then it would give future clients to know about you and what topic that you are speaking about.

It would bring potential clients closer to you. You do that by engaging in proper positioning by identifying your niche and getting laser-specific on your target audience.

In my 9 years curating spaces for & consulting & speaking in front of predominantly Black women entrepreneurs my motto has been, “Connect, Collaborate & Create Cashflow, unapologetically”. An excellent way to grow from regional to national and possibly international is to select associations strategically. Many associations have local chapters, state organizations and a national organization. Start with your local chapter, give a fabulous program and ask for referrals to the state level. And so on...

As a speaker, you can only address particular problems or challenges in your customers' lives. That is why you can easily talk to other speakers; by working together, you serve your customers better by providing more value. Work with them and do a project together.

Sure you can talk about other topics - absolutely. And also - you want to show up as the expert. On ONE SPECIFIC TOPIC. Serving everyone serves no one. What is it that you are most passionate about and why? THAT is the beginning of your story and your niche. Figure this out - and the rest will fall into place.

Crafting a signature talk early on is difficult; in my experience, it is something you eventually get to as you build your speaking career. Just focus on your niche for now and deliver inspirational talks to as many audiences as possible. As you do, you will eventually find your signature perspective and style, making it much easier to craft that signature talk then.

A signature talk is what gets you the first recognition, the subject, the expertise, you should own your talk. There shouldn't be anuobe else who speaks about that topic better than you. You need to be the person who comes to mind when that word or topic is spoken, just like when you think about Compounding yours truly comes to mind first.

As a speaker, it is your job to share your knowledge, expertise, and unique gift with the world; especially in a field that is so rife with competition such as the speaking industry. This is something I have struggled with as I have a tendency to say yes to everything! Consider who you want to reach. Then you can assess each opportunity and see if it fits ymwjth your goals. And prepare a bio and pitch that fits with that market.

Many highly talented, hugely gifted individuals fall short of their potential in the online world because they have not yet perfected the art of pitching themselves. Showcasing your unique skillset with the world is both an art and a science. You want to let your services be known without being too pushy all at once. There’s a level of nuance there; and it’s important to factor that into your branding strategy. Luckily, we’re not reinventing the wheel. By studying the greats who came before you, you’ll gain powerful insights into how you can position yourself better.

I always ask people if they would climb Mount Everest with a guide who has not climbed the mountain yet, and they always say no. The same applies here: how have you earned the right to talk about a specific topic? My standard is that I do not teach anything I have not lived and applied myself. I spend 1 to 2 hours a day, 7 days a week, developing myself.

What you know today might become obsolete in just a few months. As a speaker, you're a voice for change and innovation. One of the best ways to remain on top of your game is to consider yourself as a 'forever student'. Stay on training, join practise groups such as Toastmasters. Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse.

Think of the time zone you would like to grow into - and share content which people in that time zone will see and relate with. For example, Europe is currently -8hrs from me (Australia) so I would share content at 5pm WST to meet 9am GMT My content would have references to Europe so it piques interest in that time zone. I also engage with people (online) within their time zones (for example, 8.30pm WST = 12.30pm GMT) and doing this expands my profile internationally.
