Effective communication is not just using these "best practice" text book behaviours and approaches. The way a leader approaches these is key to making them work. The main thing is to really trust your people to undertake the work that they are employed to do. "Building" trust always sounds manipulative to me. A leader must appreciate and understand each of their people's capabilities and let them get on with their work. Never "micro-manage" this immediately destroys trust. Your people have to know you will be available to help them when they decide they need it but also you will invite them to discuss any issues that they are dealing with. They have to understand that you will always be there to support them and mentor them.

From my experience in long - term mine planning, it is important to be able to communicate messages from owners to the rest of the company. Understanding that not everyone necessarily speaks the same technical language, is important to assure the message is understood. To this end, the focus should be in knowing who your audience is and seeking feedback from them. If someone does not understand you, make them feel important while you explain (because they are!), and not look down on them.

Effective listening skills and physical field observations on constraints and challenges in the field helps to ensure a realistic mining plan with the execution team owning the plan and driving it..not Planning to Mine but Mining to Plan.
