I call it Robot 4.0 - that is, the mechanical part that everyone has known for many years with the addition of a powerful addition in the form of ML. For example, reinforcement learning (RL) helped a robot dog to learn how to walk in just 1 hour. A research team from Berkeley, developed the Dreamer program, a reinforcement learning algorithm that enables robots to learn tasks through trial and error, achieving impressive results with minimal interaction. Unlike simulations, which have limitations, Dreamer's real-world training approach shows promise, but more testing is needed to assess its adaptability to different situations. It's just one example of one type of ML.

A few days ago Google Deep Mind released a new model - RT2 (robotic transformer 2). This opens up completely unknown adaptation capabilities, thanks to ML. Robotic Transformer 2 (RT-2) is a special model that learns from both the internet and real robot experiences to control robots. It can understand and follow instructions, even for tasks it has never encountered before, thanks to its combined knowledge. RT-2 can do things like picking up objects or figuring out which action to take based on given commands!

One of the potential options is to have robotics, cameras, and lidar working in tandem to observe humans in motion and try to anticipate the human motion and work in conjunction with it, much like an apprentice would observe an experienced worker. Some similar examples exist in the world of chess competitions that show humans and software working collaboratively is the strongest option.
