How can laser communication systems improve data transmission?

Laser communication is a form of digital communication which, instead of using radio or microwave frequencies, uses laser light to transmit data. When lasers are sent through space, the air, or underwater without fiber optics, it's also known as Free Space Optical (FSO) communication, which is a subset of Optical Wireless Communications, similar to Li-Fi.
