In my opinion, this challenge can be (at least partially) won by adopting a specialized IoT platform at the edge of the Data Warehouse. This way, the IoT platform will be responsible for managing and collecting data from the remote devices. Designed and developed specifically for this kind of task, the IoT platform will easily handle the high rate of incoming messages and discard the less relevant information from chatty devices, routing only the relevant data to the real time analysis processes and to the storage. If supported by a robust database (I still prefer structured SQL database vs No-Sql) a good IoT platform can effectively decouple the messages reception processes from the core Data Warehousing infrastructure.

Depending on the urgency of analyzing this data (IoT) after transformation, data is cleaned and transmitted in Real-time or Batch. Lastly, you would want to consider a cloud solution that can handle the high volume and velocity of IoT data, the ease of retrieving the data (indexing, Sort keys and Dist keys)
