How can feedback improve your career development?

I see feedback basically comes under conflict management, a person tries to give feedback when other person not met certain expectations either with respect to that individual belief and value system or not met with respect to rules and regulations set like organizations or the individual fails/not met basic required skills. so now one has to decide the root cause for the feedback received and work accordingly , belief systems can be different(no conflict), not met rules and regulations(serious conflict or quality issues arouse), needs corrective action, not met required skills, needs personal learning and improvement. So if you listen carefully feedback, it gives direction many times or shows flaws in the system you following/developing

when one giving feedback, need to look for 1) On what aspect ( Personality/Beliefs/Customs, Rules and Regulations/Security,Skills) 2) Collect good number of examples/ reasoning for your formed opinion 3) Express your opinion along with data 4) Be prepared/flexible to change your opinion upon response, because you never know many times other person perspective/reasons 5) Have plan in hand to propose possible solutions, with out solution, don't plan to give feedback

Offer pragmatic and realistic feedback and advice. There are two kinds: 1) direct explanation of what things can be improved. 2) direct explanation of how to play the game for internal optics and also how it will make your life easier.

Take a look at the statistics of feedback you got. Not all feedback are useful or applicable. Dissect into the persona of the person who provided you with the feedback to understand if it really helps you. Eg. You shouldn’t take advice from someone who’s not a mother telling you how to be one We should always keep an open mind with the feedback we get but it doesn’t mean we should work on or satisfy all of them. Be selective in order to stay focused on your end goals. Ie. Not all product feedback needs to be addressed, work on the most critical one to prevent losing market share

Things to keep in mind when you sitting in feedback discussion and you are receiving feedback 1) You asses your strengths and weakness before even going for the session on aspects like skills, discipline, dedication, beliefs/opinions 2) Be flexible to accept your flaws/ where you struggle yourself 3) Don't go into ego issues with identity crisis( who are you, what are upto etc..) 4) Keep your mind and thoughts open, Listen and let the other speak and complete their perspective 5) Ask for data/ enquire about incidents that made them to come to this opinion 6) If you agree, request for solutions and support, show willingness for adopting new changes 7) if you disagree, express the same with supporting points

In such a scenario, everyone is prepared to take proactive action for things that don't go their way and also there is a space where making mistakes and failing is not dreaded, which creates the additional fear of judgement and stifles innovation.

1) Create a culture of horizontal org structure especially in feedback session, identity/position shouldn't matter, people can express feedback in both ways but limitations(like insult/abusive etc..) and definitions what it means constructive feedback 2) Classify different kinds of feedback, where a org culture needs to be improved/made better, make feedback as anonymous( usually it doesn't matter who gives feedback, whatfor is imp) 3) Move away from culture of right/wrong, let's accept flaws, be open to accept there will be many ways to improve the system or as an individual 4) Every or collective feedback addressed, keep the whole system/Individuals communicate about it/celebrate 5) Build trust among individuals, their feedback matters
