How can entrepreneurs ensure transparency with investors during due diligence?

A wiser Man than me (W.E. Demming) said “In God we trust. Everyone else bring Data”. VC and investors would have liked your charisma, your drive and passion towards the problem you are solving and agreed to listen to you pitch. But that is only the first step. To be convinced investors may have a lot of questions and they need Data to be convinced. It is always a good practise to have this data handy and share it. You have to prove to investors that you are aware of the risks, the steps you have taken to mitigate the risks and outcome of these steps. The outcome has to be backed by data. From your Incorporation, to sales performance to finance and payroll everything is of important to the investors and share them via Data room.

Creating a data room early on is key to streamlining the due diligence process. A data room provides a centralized and secure platform to share confidential information with potential investors or partners, allowing for efficient collaboration and communication. By anticipating the need for organization and clarity, a data room can help demonstrate your preparedness and professionalism to stakeholders, ultimately improving your chances for success in the business transaction.

I teach entrepreneurship and regularly sit as a judge for pitches. Here are my thoughts. Research research research. Know your business. Be succinct. Too many words muddy the waters. Identify the problem you are solving. What are the current solutions offered. How is your solution different, better, cheaper. What would drive your potential client to choose your product over the other solutions. Build a true proforma budget including the path of manufacture to in the hands of the consumer. What are the risks. How will you mitigate the risks. Do a comprehensive SWOT analysis of the competition versus your product. Identify the sources of your research and use well recognised institutions to back up your statements.
