How can empathy improve your team's communication?

Teams may comprise individuals with varied backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. Empathy enables team members to recognize these distinctions and cultivate an environment where each person feels appreciated. When teams integrate empathy into their daily practices, it encourages open sharing, which, in turn, fosters collaborative problem-solving and innovation

Faire preuve d'empathie, c'est ne pas tomber dans le piège du syndrome du Scarabée, ce biais cognitif inconscient qui nous fait privilégier ceux qui nous ressemblent... L'enjeu est donc de rendre conscient ce biais, afin d'adopter une posture d'ouverture et de non jugement, laissant la place à l'exploration et l'intérêt pour l'autre.

A bias can be as simple as expecting your neurodivergent teammates to work in the same parameters and workflow that you do. Understanding these differences offers a way to harness these work styles and increase comfortability and collaboration through the team. If a ND team member tells you that things are not working for them in the current set up it is because the entire career system is biased towards people who do not have these issues. Empathy builds bridges for everyone to be comfortable and heard within the workplace.

Créer des liens de confiance exige de faire preuve d'authenticité, de vulnérabilité et de respect envers les autres, et s'assurer que ce soit réciproque. Un grain de sable et la confiance peut vite se perdre... personne ne pourra pleinement avoir confiance en vous si vous n'accueillez pas ses émotions avec bienveillance, si vous ne créez pas cet espace de sécurité psychologique dans lequel il se sentira entendu et compris dans ce qu'il vit.

Trust may be foundational but mistrust is a poison within a team. Empathy drives understanding. Some days, your team may work at 10% capacity and that's fine. Other days may be 90% days. Treating each team member individually and having genuine concern for their issues goes a long way; it is easier to be open with your leaders when you know that they will support you. Micro management and mistrust is one of the quickest ways to put staff off. The only metric that should matter is whether the work gets done.

Feedback is perhaps the most important tool for keeping workers motivated and aligned with the vision of the team. If things aren't good enough; communicate it in a way that bolsters the worker. "You are great at x, but we feel it would really benefit you to take a course in y, how can we support you with this?" If things are great; TELL PEOPLE. I cannot stress this enough. Even if it is an every day occurrence, please tell your team that they are smashing it. On the flip side; be open to feedback. Nobody is perfect. Feedback is an opportunity for growth and learning and if that isn't the greatest opportunity in the workplace, I'm not sure what is.

Le feedback est au sens propre du terme une réponse en résonance... elle se doit donc d'être empathique pour : bien refléter ce que l'autre vous a exprimé, ET formuler de manière constructive votre point de vue. L'empathie sert avant tout à établir un lien favorisant l'expression émotionnelle, et à renforcer la sécurité psychologique. Communiquer en résonance fait partie de la pratique empathique. Mais pour cela, il est nécessaire d'abord de bien repérer, décoder et comprendre les besoins de son interlocuteur : et cela passe par comprendre les signaux non verbaux. Absolument. L'empathie favorise la confiance, la coopération et la collaboration. Performer c'est collaborer ! Per-formare (en ancien francais) signifie Accomplir ensemble... Pour qu'une équipe collabore efficacement en évitant les incompréhensions, les malentendus, les non dits, et utilise avec pertinence les outils de l'intelligence collective, elle doit d'abord et avant tout faire preuve d'intelligence émotionnelle et d'empathie fonctionnelle. Collaborer, c'est accueillir d'autres angles de vue et perspectives, avec ouverture et non jugement.

Empathy is the ability to recognize and understand the emotions of others. It's not just about listening to what the other person is saying, but also paying attention to their non-verbal cues, such as their tone of voice and body language. Active listening requires a willingness to understand the other person's perspective without judgment. Some tips to be more empathetic: 1. be present. 2.Ask how the other person is doing and spend quality time with the team. 3. To listen to their concerns. 4. Validate their feelings and look for solutions.

La communication, c'est avant tout écouter. Ca n'est pas parler. D'abord, il s'agit de faire preuve d'écoute empathique. Pour mieux appréhender le contexte, les besoins de chacun, mieux comprendre, et ainsi favoriser l'expression individuelle. Il s'agit d'essayer de comprendre avant de chercher à être compris.

L'empathie permet à chaque membre de l'équipe de prendre conscience des enjeux et des points de vue de chacun, permettant ainsi une meilleure communication et une résolution plus efficace des problèmes rencontrés. Elle permet également un partage plus efficace, notamment des victoires individuelles et collectives. Chacun peut ainsi regarder à travers le filtre de l'autre.

Empathy is a key ingredient in effective communication, because it allows you to understand your team members' perspectives and emotions. By putting yourself in their shoes, you can build rapport and create an environment of trust. You can also identify any barriers to communication and address them head-on. Empathy when communicating with your team members should not be taken for granted. Putting yourself in others shoes shows you understand what they might be facing at that moment.
