1 Define and communicate a CCR vision

A clear and shared vision of CCR is essential for creating a common purpose and direction for all stakeholders. Educational leaders can define and communicate a CCR vision that reflects the local context, values, and goals of their students, families, educators, and partners. They can also use data and evidence to identify the strengths and gaps in their current CCR practices and outcomes, and set realistic and measurable targets for improvement. A CCR vision should be communicated widely and consistently, and revisited and revised as needed.

Alignment…Alignment…Alignment! Making sure your instructional practices, materials, and professional development all center around CCR pedagogy which will foster collaboration and innovation. This should be communicated to all stakeholders and strategically outlined and planned for before the start of the school year. It will involve everyone: from guidance counselors having IGP meetings frequently, parents and students being open to new ideas and ways of learning, teachers teaching through project-based and module themed activities, and educational leaders creating an environment that encourages discovery and tackling real-world challenges.

3 Engage and empower students and families

Students and families are the primary beneficiaries and partners of CCR policies. Therefore, educational leaders should engage and empower them in the design, implementation, and evaluation of CCR initiatives and programs. They can do this by creating multiple and meaningful channels of communication and feedback, such as surveys, focus groups, advisory councils, and online platforms. They can also provide information and resources to help students and families understand the CCR options and opportunities available to them, and to support their decision-making and goal-setting processes.

In my experiences, I have discovered that student and family engagement is key in getting any sort of progress with academic policies and programs. It is 100% imperative that students and families contribute to the shaping of these programs and their implementation. It will not only provide richer insights for refinement & operation, but will also increase the rate of students and families that take advantage of these programs/ feel empowered to do so. It is simply a human-centred design. Actively engage and involve the end-users in the creation and organization of the programs, and provide them with positions (advisory councils, FGDs, etc) that will make them feel heard and more willing to use the available CCR program.

Community partnerships are essential for expanding and enriching the CCR experiences and opportunities for students. Educational leaders can build and leverage community partnerships by identifying and reaching out to potential collaborators, such as employers, colleges, nonprofits, and civic organizations. They can also establish and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with these partners, based on shared goals, roles, and responsibilities. Community partnerships can help provide students with access to mentors, internships, dual enrollment, service learning, and other CCR activities that enhance their skills, knowledge, and networks.

On top of leveraging community and partnerships, I feel leaders can act as an advocate for students whom faced adverse challenges. This gives students a boost of self-confidence that they have someone watching out for them.

Monitoring and celebrating CCR progress and achievements is important for sustaining and improving the CCR culture and outcomes. Educational leaders can monitor and celebrate CCR progress and achievements by collecting and analyzing multiple sources of data, such as test scores, graduation rates, college enrollment and completion, career placement and satisfaction, and student and stakeholder feedback. They can also use the data to inform and adjust their CCR policies and practices, and to recognize and reward the efforts and successes of students, educators, and partners.
