Datawarehousing can't go alone without governance. Datawarehouse or marts are generally denormalized tables because of reporting ease. However to get into there from source, it first gets into Integration layer ( Ideal scenario) which is highly normalized ( 3rd normal form) . Imagine the breadth of ETL flow from source till warehouse , data gets transformed a lot in between till it get to Facts ,dimensions , Cubes etc. Without proper data goverance there will be challenges like Data redundancy , difficult Lineage hence difficult to identify the change , questionable Data quality and issues in reliablity of the data hence less confidence in insights generation.

One has to gain end to end knowledge on implemeation of DQ framework. DQ framework requires technical as well as business/domain acumen as it requires to interact with Business stakeholders a lot for implementation of quality rules and secondly one needs to know end to end STM to apply the quality rules. Hence it gives a good lot exposure to the Architect as well as business team. Moreover implementing DQ framework with advance AI and ML libraries increase the tech breadth as well .A good DQ report should have detail data profile report with proper statistics and integrated dashboards to show the demarcation of good vs bad data.

Data security is key aspect , it is required irrespective of anything. Strategy like how the data is encrypted at rest and transit . How the data packets is moving through the network , how secure the network is what are the controls and authorization principles used for data access gives a good knowledge on data platforms where the data is stored. Plus added on knowledge of data regulations as per industry . With lot of data leaks it is utmost important on how data is stored and secured in storage as well network.

In my experience, data governance is most sought after for implementation of data regulation e.g. GDPR on data warehouse. Data governance knowledge in data warehouse improves the traceability, ownership and legality of data.
