How can academic advisors improve communication with leadership?

As a sitting university president, I appreciate getting updates that are based on data and also have some context around the data. This allows me to better understand what our students (and our academic advisors who work with our students) need and what they want. What I _don't_ want to hear is just a budget request that isn't grounded in data and doesn't show me how the request puts student needs at the forefront.

Academic advisors are the vital link between the student's life and the leadership expectations. Understanding what each party needs to achieve from their partnership is the key. Using this knowledge to develop open and clear communication will result in greater student success.

If you call by phone to your student and inforn him/her that he/she is a failure, the student may consider this is the end of life and may lead to grave decisions. Vivemos um momento em que n?o se perde mais tempo com leitura. Se o texto n?o conter um título atraente que desperte o interesse, o convite pouco será aceito. To make it happen in the presence of academicians and management personnel who are not always academicians especially in a private education context, the management must define a clear brand of academic excellence with all of its stakeholders-students included. Resources and institutional mechanisms of dialogue must also be installed. Then, the academic team shall be given with academic freedom to translate the vision into learning while keeping a collegial environment.

Naturally people need acceptance and understanding of thier feelings regardless of the content of their ideas. And in an organization it is impossible to accept everyone's idea and to fulfil everyone's demand. But, as a leader or as an employee listening to the ideas and feelings and addressing the issue in a win-win approach is vital. By doing so people feel understood but the caliber of the institution can't accommodate everyone's demand; prioritization and reviewing back at future times becomes the game.

N?o é apenas uma quest?o de ouvir e responder, mas sim de dar toda aten??o possível, necessária, para que n?o se tenha nenhuma dúvida em rela??o ao assunto. A mensagem precisa ser perfeitamente compreendida, pois, só assim, servirá para que se organize as ideias e se prepare o discurso de resposta no processo de comunica??o Faz-se necessário, paralelamente, que exista uma abertura entre os interlocutores, a fim de que se dê aten??o necessária para o ideal cumprimento do processo de comunica??o. E se essa abertura estiver costurada com o respeito e a admira??o, fica ainda mais fácil.

Uns chamam de humildade, outros de sabedoria, mas podemos interpretar até como técnica, pois pedir feedback é uma das bases da boa comunica??o. Nem sempre é perceptível se o que pretendemos dizer está sendo interpretado como planejado, portanto, ao pedir confirma??o, além de garantir sua eficácia, demonstra respeito à quem está se comunicando.
