In my experience, simulation and modeling tools are utilized to ensure that the quality of the outputs from engineering to manufacturing are robust and will reduce the reworks necessary. It is a big factor that organizations need to factor on how simulation and modeling enhances quality. By using the tools, we can solve manufacturing problems earlier in the development process and thereby reduce costly problems later on. In automotive stamping, simulations and modeling tools enable the engineers early on to peak at issues such as thinning, splitting , wrinkling, springback concern. It is also possible to see quality concerns in customer facing surfaces during panel drop to conveyors in the end of line by conducting drop test.

Simulation opportunities have expanded far beyond traditional FEA and CFD to electromagnetics, optics, photonics, sound, digital twin, mission engineering, and even a combination of the above with multiphysics simulation. Simulation doesn't always make sense, so focus on your most expensive problems and testing requirements first and work backward.
