There are many tutorials and free documents that will make you a real expert in a short time. While these platforms are useful, in my experience, coding can offer more flexibility (fewer limitations). In addition, a higher barrier to entry can allow you to hold onto the new position you worked hard for longer

Use parameters such as: - degree of automation - frequency of activity - complexity of performing the operation in the current state - potential reduction of FTEs - margin of error Then figure out if you can do the automation yourself or find an experienced partner. By compiling a precise assessment, you will identify different opportunities for growth and scalability for your company. And with the right partner, the forecasts won't be just dreams. When you talk to the decision makers, keep in mind to speak their language and make the transition as smooth and streamlined as possible for them.

In my 30 years of experience, before entering an automation process, I have read many publications, manuals, and brochures on the latest developments in the automation process. That's why I have always been one step ahead of others in defining the goals to be achieved with automation, as I have been in charge of different teams for automation processes within the company where I work.

Here is my two cent: do not focus too much on the executive aspects. You can delegate those (and with the same logic they can replace you). Study current processes and build long-lasting relationships with experienced automation partners. Your mantra should be "Get more with less" Take care of all the impacts you will have on stakeholders, not to create a negative reputation and have a positive impact on your company. Put down a first automation solution with the use of no-code platforms, what in startup jargon is called mvp. It will be easier to have the attention and confidence you seek.

If you want to get a promotion, always keep in mind that stakeholders are and communicate effectively. It can be helpful to prepare presentations with performance metrics and ROI. Try to focus in particular on the success story and your significant role. After impressing your audience, explain how what you’ve done is scalable and just a step towards what you can still achieve in the field of automation.
