There are two types of people in the world — those who face a challenge and say, “This will be tough, but we can do it!” and those who say, “Nobody’s done this before. Why are we even trying?” While some may say that it’s good to be realistic, the biggest obstacle to your success may be yourself. Do you talk yourself into failing? When you doubt your capability, diminish your self-worth, or accept failure as a given, you place limits on your performance and may even make failure a foregone conclusion. In other words, your success is often determined before you start. Success is all in your head.

As a leader it’s important to embrace failure and operate with an improving mindset versus a proving mindset. When you think you need to prove your worth you say no to challenges, never ask for help, and hide failures for fear of being found out. When the focus is on improving you’re open to growth opportunities, to taking risks, and asking questions because you know there’s always room to grow. Embracing failure through the lens of improving can help you connect to the value of the learnings.

Success is not always an easy road to travel. It often requires hard work, determination, and a willingness to learn from failure. Rather than fearing failure, I consider it as a natural part of any journey towards success. Embracing the lessons that come with each setback and using them to create new goals and opportunities. Keeping in mind that persistence is key. Even when faced with challenges, keep pushing forward and never give up. With patience and perseverance, you can achieve great things and create a better future for yourself. So, the key is to stay focused, stay motivated, and keep moving towards your goals. Success may not happen overnight, but by putting in the effort and staying committed, Sure you will make it happen.

They’re caused by carelessness, inaccuracy, or poor judgment. For the most part, people are very forgiving if you make an honest mistake or act out of character on occasion. But when improper actions — such as lying, cheating, or stealing — are repeated or intentional, your reputation suffers. Even if you offer a heartfelt apology after a transgression, it can still take considerable time and effort to recover.

Sense Your Feelings and Needs - Show Empathy to Yourself: Start by acknowledging your own feelings and needs in the situation. Recognize any emotions that may arise due to the failure and understand what you need to move forward constructively. This self-awareness lays the groundwork for effective problem-solving.

It's only a failure when it doesn't work out right? Up until that point you thought you had a good idea. So you did your research, maybe more was needed or maybe you needed more resources. When you didn't achieve the results you wanted you said 'I failed'! Failing forward is a good term to use as you process this experience. You can also self-reflect and ask yourself these questions: 1.What went wrong? 2. What outcome did I want and why? 3. What could I have done differently? 4. Were my expectations too high? 5. What was missing? 6. How did it make me feel? 7. What will I do differently? 8. Who can support me? The answers will help you delve deeper into the situation. PS: Be kind to yourself and acknowledge your feelings.

Dissecting your failures is crucial for preventing recurrence. Identify specific factors that contributed to the setback, whether they stem from strategic, operational, or interpersonal errors. Most people fail before achieving success; the difference is that successful people never stop trying. As Douglas MacArthur said, “Age wrinkles the body. Quitting wrinkles the soul.”
