And go connect and try to help. OpenSource has its own rules. People are doing their own thing in their own time so don't take kindly to being told what to do. Be nice. Ask how to help. Contribute. Build karma. You'll come out with better technical skills, better people skills, and CV points to boot. Enjoy! You by no means have to know them inside and out, but having this understanding sets the foundation of all programming languages. Mix this with drive and curiosity and you're well on your way

Remember to keep having fun! Software Engineering is such a broad field. If a certain area doesn't click for you - move on. There's so much to discover. For my part, I was really amazed to see all the different ways you can get active in that space, and for sure there's a place for everyone.
