A mentor is required to train, guide and develops new comers in automotive industry to gain practical knowledge, specifically, knowledge related to automotive industrial system (made-to-order), line manufacturing system, buffer management and people management. An automotive industry requires many people during the production process, specifically in assembly line. The mentor should make aware that the manufacturing process is a like a fluid flowing in a piping system. A small bottleneck can block the whole flow. Automotive industry is a continuous manufacturing system, for example, if a part is missing in an assembly line, hence the line will be stopped and hence all the previous processes will stop as well.

A Mentor is a great way to gain knowledge and insight on how to approach an issue post training, but also come up with new ideas that are stemmed from something they already have attempted on previous issues, a mentor can also be more than a trainer. A mentor is someone that has your best interest in heart and mind and will push you to be the best you can be and that is more valuable then any trainer in my mind.

Documentation of your work processes aids in having a set standard of how should be done or offer insight of how it can be improved. For example at my current employer there was a process a value stream was doing but we had no documentation of it, after recording and reviewing the process we were able to improve the "black book" processes safety and velocity, Now that "black book" process is our set standard for that task for new employees to be able to perform the task with ease.

Embracing new technology mostly data analytics is can greatly improve your understanding of what is happening and what you can improve on whether its a graph data on your vehicles performance with a diagnosis tablet, or looking a trends of manufacturing output and see what areas of the vehicle or process is struggling so you can improve.
