I don’t feel this is different than any other salary negotiation. Ensure to do your homework in understanding the market pay-scales and come up with a 10-20% salary range based on what you are comfortable with; think of all your bargaining chips, which will revolve around your knowledge, the years of experience, your soft skills and go in with a positive mindset, knowing that what you are asking for is reasonable to ask for your skillset. The fact that a position is remote, does not devalue your worth. Most employees work more when they are remote, than when in the office.

I don't understand the "...in the Enterprise Software field" reference, so I'll ignore it in my answer... This is pretty straightforward: 1. Develop your hourly rate from prior exempt and non-exempt work = know your worth. 2. Observe what others are asking for or being offered for similar experience, skills, location, and/or projects. 3. Ask the prospective vendor what their approach is to project/remote work renumeration is based on: time-only, milestones being reached, deliverables presented? 4. Ask the prospective vendor is there is a related budget for the project? 5. After taking these all into account, determine what you are willing to accept or decline compensation-wise.

One thing to think about is what other ways can you be compensated. Time off, stock, bonus, work from home, tuition, etc are all ways you can negotiate and should think about before engaging your management.
