You must know every single tool in your toolbox especially in conditions when you don't have a special tool you must improvise with all you have. Always have in mind, that if you only need a tool once a year, you don't need to have it in a toolbox but you must have it in your service car.

A very critical part of the job is to get to know the tools and properly use them. Many situations require special tools to get the job done properly and you should know if you have these tools or not and how to properly use it. You can be very very good also improvise and get the job done, but very good practice is to use the right tools and know how to use them. My practice is to test the tools periodically and clean them if it is needed, this way I am updated if the tools are good, what I have, and what is missing. Also, some tools require calibration so is good practice to send them to specialized companies to have them certified.

Always have the most common spare parts in your service car because in case of sudden break you will be a hero to your client. If there is a possibility to return unused parts or use them in the future, never hesitate to order everything that may need replacement because you client is hoping to work after your repair and if you need to go for another visit their production plans will be ruined

By using your experience or other experience you should know which part might get broken when, Also when a part seems to be failing soon is good practice to order spare parts and to have them ready just in case. When you perform an update/procedure/technical bulletin always best practice to read before going to the customer what you will do, what you will need, and what can go wrong so you can make the right decision and solve the problem efficiently.

It is crucial to be able to evaluate and explain how much time you will need to fix clients problem. They don't care much if it is difficult to you or any other you thoughs. They only need it to be as fast and as cost-effective as possible

It is best to let the client know the risks and the downtime before you start doing the job, giving examples has helped me a lot to better explain to the customer. Saying "I don't know what's wrong" is a very wrong thing to say even when you don't have any idea, they will lose trust in you and this opinion will stay with them even in the future.

Being adaptive to problem-solving is a very good quality but always remember if these tools/practices/solutions are allowed by the company or don't cause any other problems. Sometimes some old defective modules are not 100% defective, meaning some of the knowing good parts can be used for diagnostic if they come in handy depending on the situation.

Never forget to use everything you have around you: maybe there is a hardware store close-by, maybe there is someone who knows someone who can craft you a custom bushing, maybe there is a car service next street who can borrow you a missing tool!
